Film Supply Select: Look Away

An African born man reflects on his experiences around racism in America, and asks the vital question, where was race in the creation of man?

In 2012 Hans Ndam moved from his home town of Douala Cameroon to Dallas Texas in pursuit of a dancing career. But aside from that, he knew there was a deeper purpose for him to be here. He knew through his faith, his mission was to bridge cultural gaps where he could, encouraging people to share their humanity with one another. But immediately he found himself hitting obstacles, many of which attached to the pigment of his skin. Despite these obstacles, Hans has continued to be that bridge for many people over the years. In this collaboration, Hans reflects on his experiences as an African born man in America and explores the root of racism through his faith.

“A City is a Poem”

Commissioned by the Dallas Institute of Humanities and Culture and The Dallas Morning News for the Opening Night of the 2016 Dallas Festival of Ideas. Four months after getting back from completing the Pacific Crest Trail, after my wife and I decided to plant our roots back in Dallas, I was asked to make a film about the very city I had missed while hiking all those miles. I didn’t miss it for its status or skyline, but for its people and its hospitality. I was given the opportunity to collaborate with award-winning American slam poet Joaquin Zihuatanejo. With his poem in my head, I explored some of the less known about corners of Dallas and met some awesome people along the way.

יַבֹּק (Jabbok)

A meditative short film inspired by the story of Jacob wrestling with God. This film is not focused on any kind of tactile story with plot points. It is instead intended to be a meditation on searching and asking, while hearing no answers. One might also lean into the story of Job.

Short Documentaries

Though some of the following lean more towards a promotional video,

the style that connects them all is documentarian.
